Maggie

Meet Maggie!

Maggie is an 8 month old female Labrador Retriever mix. Maggie continues to get less shy as the days go by, and she's started coming when she's called by people she knows. She will shy away if you make a sudden, forceful grab at her, but in general she is turning out to be very people-oriented pup! It will be important to have another dog on which to model herself, but given her progress we could consider a home where someone is home most of the day.

She loves to follow her older "fur-brother" around and chew on him, but will choose human interaction over dog interaction. She is good at making some of her wants known -- barks and scratches on the back door when she wants to come in, whines in the middle of the night if she has to go out. Maggie goes to sleep on the floor, but has been known to sneak up on the bed if it's a cool night. She'll play maniacally with other dogs, but has a five-foot stranger comfort zone. It will take some time for her to trust a new human enough to approach them on her own, but she will follow other dogs anywhere! She enjoys chasing cats in play, but does not try to hurt them.

Maggie is about 85% housebroken and will use puppy pads when she can't make it outside. She uses her crate as a retreat, and is fed inside it, but is not crate trained. Because she stays with her fur-brother 95% of the time, she stays with her fur-brother in her human's bedroom at bedtime and will not have an accident in the room. Maggie loves to be outdoors (typical lab!) and chew (also a typical lab!). She's still learning to walk on a leash, and does well if her fur-brother is near, but gets nervous without him. She's smart, very responsive to the word "no".

Maggie would do best in a home with gentle and patient children. Having another, older dog is preferred (but not required) for this adoption, as it will help Maggie adjust with ease. Maggie's adoption fee is $275.
