How to Post Your Pet for Adoption
CARA is committed to helping pets find good homes. But we are often
full to capacity with wonderful adoptable cats and dogs, as are many
other rescue groups. So we offer you the opportunity to find a home for
your pet by advertising through our website.
These are known as "courtesy postings".
Your pet will be posted on our website and also on our webpages in Petfinder.
People browsing the webpages can view your pet's webpage and contact
you directly if they are interested.
We've found that many people have successfully found good homes for their
pets this way.
So how do you advertise your pet through our "courtesy postings"?
You will need to provide us with the following information.
Here are some helpful hints. We also recommend that you check out
our current courtesy postings
(Courtesy Postings for Cats and
Courtesy Postings
for Dogs) for examples.
Provide a full description of the pet, including age, breed, size, sex,
and whether spayed or neutered. Describe the pet's personality, including
whether the pet gets along with dogs, cats, or children, if possible.
Think about what kind of home would be best for the pet - quiet, active,
no other pets, needs room to run, needs a fenced yard? If possible,
make sure the pet is up to date with vaccinations. Please note why you can't
keep the pet - people will want to know. Be honest. If there
is a behavioral problem, describe it but know that a change of
household can often improve the situation. You are also welcome to
discuss the problems with some of our experienced CARA members,
who may be able to provide helpful advice.
Get at least one good digital picture of your pet for his or her web page.
Note that many cellphones take poor quality pictures, so if you don't have
a digital camera you may want to get a friend to help. If you have
a good printed picture, you can contact us about scanning it for the
webpage. Of course you want to show off your pet to his or her best
advantage!
Respond in a timely manner to inquiries. Ask the potential
adopter questions about their situation to make sure the new home will
be a good fit and to insure they will take good care of the animal.
Who is their vet? What animals have they had before? Why are they
interested in your pet? Responsible people are open and willing to
talk with you.
And please let us know when
your pet is adopted so we can update our website.
If you have any questions, please contact our web editor Cathy
at cli_1025@yahoo.com for help.
