Cookie and Penney hanging out together at a recent adoption show
Cookie says "See, ain't we cute together?" |
Cookie is a GREAT hugger. He loves to be on your lap, and will stay
there as long as you will let him. If you pick him up and cuddle
him, he LEANS into it. He LOVES to be kissed and rub his face against
your face. He is looking for the person that enjoys a very loving
animal. He has a temperament that suggests a therapy animal...
calm, easygoing and friendly. Everyone that meets him is smitten by
his handsome features and open personality.
Cookie had a rocky time in CARA for a year. He'd start out well in his foster home but start having litterbox problems after about 3 weeks -- he'd poop there (and cover up) but not pee. He went through a number of foster homes when it didn't correct itself. We thought Cookie might have run out of options since we ran out of fosters for him. However, his first foster decided to give it one more try in her uncarpetted office. The breakthrough discovery is Cookie will *FAITHFULLY* pee in a litterbox that is empty or has a pee pad. Now Cookie's litterbox behavior is 100% P-E-R-F-E-C-T and has been for about 5 months. We are seeking a home willing to have multiple litterboxes for him: he has one for pooping and two for peeing to go through a normal day without checking, and it works REALLY well. Pee pads are close to the cost of litter if you buy in volume at Target or Wal-Mart. Cookie does pretty well with most cats. (He's shown here with his friend Penney, a gray tabby senior girl.) He does best with cats that stand up to him, but his previous foster home also had a scaredy cat and he was kind to her. We think the best home is by himself so his pee pad boxes aren't disturbed (some cats might want to play with them like toys), but it could work out for him to be with another cat or nice dog. He lived with 3 Chihuahuas before coming to CARA, and with a corgi-sized dog at one foster home, and likes dogs. Cookie makes his foster think a tiny bit of Marley the dog (of "Marley and Me" fame). Marley was "the world's worst dog" because of his paranoia of storms that caused him to become frantic, and just not "getting it" about doggy obedience. However when his family lost him they felt he was a GREAT dog because he was so loving and loyal and they realized they learned a lot about loving by accepting him "warts and all". Cookie's cute ears that make him look like a Scottish Fold are the result of hematomas. His wobbly, swaying walk suggests he might have had light exposure to distemper as a kitten (which is common and otherwise has no longterm effect), but he is nimble and has no problem jumping up on laps or low cabinets. Despite his oddities, his incredible hugging leaves the biggest impression and the other things don't really matter. |

Cookie is 14 years young and
very healthy, so we expect a lot of
good years for him. We hope someone will see the diamond in the
rough and open themselves to the loving that he so generously
gives. He would especially make a great companion for an older person.
If you'd like to meet Cookie, please check our upcoming
show
schedule, and email us beforehand at
