Two years ago Tom was adopted as a kitten from a vet hospital, but over time his adopter and her roommate acquired more and more animals, including a rambunctious puppy and an adult dog with some aggression issues. Poor Tom became more and more stressed, lost weight, and finally developed litter box problems (maybe because he was afraid to run the gauntlet to get to the box). So his adopter returned him to the vet hospital. He is doing fine now in a solo situation, eating and using the litter box consistently. But unfortunately that solo situation is ... living in a cage. He is treated very well and he gets out to stretch his legs now and again, but it is still far from a family home. If Tom seems sad in his pictures, that's because he is sad. He really wants to live with people who will give him lots of attention and love. He's a wonderfully friendly cat. When a total stranger came to take his picture, he immediately jumped on her lap and started cuddling and purring. (If she didn't already have a plethora of cats, she would have taken him home then and there.) Tom is negative for Feline Leukemia Virus and FIV, is up-to-date on vaccinations, and is neutered. He was born in October 2006, so he is now about 2½ years old. If you are interested in meeting Tom, please call Beltsville Veterinary Hospital at 301-937-3020 and ask for Alana.
